examine-power-consumption-of-s60-devices-with-nokia-energy-profiler.pngfahrertuer@buddycloud.com has done an awesome mobile battery power consumption write-up. He looks at the different connection methods for extending your phone's battery life while keeping a TCP connection open.

Summary: use 2G unless you need speed. Try to avoid "dual mode"

If you are interested in this topic in a deeper level, I can recommend Martin Sauter's Wireless Moves blog. The following google search should show you all his articles on power consumption in the mobile world:

BC downtime

Sometimes servers get tired of their surroundings and like a change. Our datacenter provider has informed us that the BC servers will be moved to their newest datacenter some 30km away. This means an outage from 10:30pm CST until 7:30CST tomorrow (Tuesday).

Unfortunately there is very little we can do about this except to make sure that we have good backups and a solid restart plan. We have both.

Do you believe in fate, Neo?

haxor the grix

You don't need to hack into the matrix. We are doing an extended-edition hackathon on things closer to home: Finish the buddycloud Android client, and to make a dent in the iPhone client. Volcanos or not!

We are starting tomorrow around midday and will wrap up on Sunday afternoon.

The idea is to hopefully with great progress on Android and iPhone clients and the new BC website. (sneak peek screenshot here:

As usual:

  • bring a laptop, wifi etc here
  • coffee, food and drinks are ready for you
  • hack on buddycloud stuff or your own pet project
  • on Saturday we'll have a grill and get some home-made burger action.
  • be nice to the cats

Drop in any day you feel like for haxor action. Coding together is always more fun.
